National Trail Day

Trail Blazers

Trail Blazers are a group of volunteers with a specific purpose/project; to help clear a path for an educational and interpretative trail within the North Myrtle Beach Park and Sports Complex.

A protected wetland termed a Carolina Bay is situated within the park property hosting a diverse ecological and wildlife environment. To protect the integrity of this natural treasure "hand" cutting is required to clear a path through the bay.

Open to all ages (if under 12 years of age, must be accompanied by adult).

Trail Blazers will meet periodically to clear a specific path within the Carolina Bay with:

  • Loppers
  • Pruning shears
  • Hedge shears
  • Pruning saws

Volunteers are encouraged to bring:

  • Gloves
  • Bottled water
  • Cutting equipment listed for clearing paths
  • Insect repellent

Volunteers are also encouraged to wear protective gear such as:

  • Long pants
  • Long sleeves
