Water Storage Tank and Transmission Line Project

City of North Myrtle Beach News Posted on October 08, 2025

NORTH MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. -- The City of North Myrtle Beach has begun construction on a 2-million-gallon water storage tank and a new 30-inch water transmission line in the Windy Hill area.

Work on the transmission line is currently underway along Poinsett Street, while construction of the new water tank has begun in Windy Hill. The project is expected to be completed by Summer 2026.

Construction activity will be limited to public road rights-of-way and designated construction easements. Residents and visitors should expect temporary lane closures and traffic detours as work progresses on the transmission line.

Phase one of the transmission line project will include work along Windy Hill Extension Road, then along Poinsett Street from Windy Hill Road to 33rd Avenue South. An intermediate connection will be made from Poinsett Street to Highway 17 via 33rd Avenue South.

Initially, the Contractor will begin at the intersection of Poinsett Street and 37th Avenue South and work towards 33rd Avenue South. Then work from the intersection of Poinsett Street and 37th Avenue South back to Windy Hill Road.

The City received a $10 million grant from the South Carolina Rural Infrastructure Authority (RIA) as part of the South Carolina Infrastructure Investment Program (SCIIP), which will fund the majority of this project. These improvements will increase the resiliency and reliability of the City’s public water system.
