The North Myrtle Beach Public Safety Department tests annually for the positions of Public Safety Officer, Firefighter, and Communications/Detention Officer. You must be a U.S. Citizen, 21 years of age, be able to obtain a South Carolina Driver’s License, and have a High School Diploma or equivalent. Prior experience, certification, and/or post-secondary education are preferred.
Our sworn employees are cross-trained. Public Safety Officers (PSOs) hold Class 1 Law Enforcement and NFPA Firefighter I certifications. Firefighter / EMTs hold Class 3 Law Enforcement certification. Communications / Detention Officers hold Basic Jail and Telecommunications certifications. Our personnel attend classes through the South Carolina Criminal Justice Academy and South Carolina Fire Academy.
