NORTH MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. -- After more than two decades of dedicated service to the City of North Myrtle Beach, Kevin Blayton, Public Works Director and City Engineer, has announced his retirement. Blayton’s last day with the City will mark the conclusion of a remarkable 26-year career defined by innovation, resilience, and a steadfast commitment to public service.
Blayton began his tenure with North Myrtle Beach on August 31, 1998, arriving just days after Hurricane Bonnie swept through the area and during the early stages of the Barefoot Resort development. From that moment forward, he played a critical role in shaping the City’s infrastructure, guiding it through substantial growth and numerous coastal storms.
“Kevin has been a cornerstone of this community’s progress and preparedness,” said Interim City Manager Ryan Fabbri. “His vision and leadership have left a lasting mark on North Myrtle Beach.”
Throughout his career, Blayton worked to ensure the City’s infrastructure met the demands of a growing population while remaining cost-effective for residents. Among his many contributions, he led the region’s first stormwater ocean outfall program and oversaw multiple beach renourishment projects—both of which have significantly improved the City’s coastal resilience and environmental health.
From road improvements and stormwater management to long-range planning and emergency preparedness, Blayton’s expertise and leadership have helped North Myrtle Beach navigate growth and weather challenges with confidence.
“As I reflect on the past 26 years, I am proud of the work we have done to build resilient infrastructure and support a thriving community,” said Blayton. “It has been a privilege to serve the people of North Myrtle Beach.”
